The Unyielding Flame
Where it all began.
The Unyielding Flame is perhaps the most talked-about myth in Elutheria. It is rumored to be what snuffed out the Precursor Elutherians, and some even believe it still exists today.
These are both true.
Situated in the Labyrinth beneath Castle Elutheria, the Unyielding Flame is a small fire that cannot be put out through any means. No amount of water, suffocation, or lack of fuel will extinguish it. It can burn nearly anything to a crisp, be it wood, stone, metal, or flesh. The only way to extinguish it is a magic ritual (that died out with the Precursor Elutherians) that will contain all flames and infernos caused by the Flame into a single manageable blaze. As this ritual no longer exists in the modern age, there is no way to put out the fire. If unleashed, it will consume all of the world until there is nothing but scorched earth remaining.
The only records of its existence lie within the confines of the Rust-Sand Dunes Laboratory, guarded by the dreaded Precursor Monolith.
The 7-Month Inferno
2,000 years ago, the Cult of Valstar created the Unyielding Flame to destroy Elutheria. Their plan nearly succeeded. The entire continent was quickly consumed in flames within 7 months, and though they tried to extinguish the flames, millions were killed, and much of the Precursors' legacy was destroyed. With no other option, the queen sacrificed herself to contain the flame. Having to perform the ritual alone, it drained her of her life force. With her dying breath, she ordered what few survivors remained to rebuild Castle Elutheria, and guard the Unyielding Flame in a labyrinth beneath the castle.
